Masaka road registered yet another tragic accident this morning in which the Resident District Commissioner of Koboko District, Isaac Kawooya and his wife and others perished.
The other victims identified by Police are Haji Abudallah Muwonge, 54, of Nyamitanga Mbarara, Rwandan national Anastasie Mukakamali, 66, Aharizira Christine, 25, of Mutojo Ntugamo, Semanda Manusulu of Kakoba Mbarara, and a juvenile of five years old yet to be identified.
The accident happened at Mpambire swamp on Friday morning when a Toyota Premio registration number UAZ 417D allegedly collided with a trailer at around 6am.
Police authorities in Mpigi have confirmed the accident and the death of six people.
Although investigations are still ongoing, they suspect speeding was the cause of the accident.
The RDC, his wife (not yet identified) and others according to Koboko Municipality MP and Investment Minister, Ms Evelyn Anite, were returning from Mbarara where the RDC had gone to join the president at a Muslim function. The minister described Kawooya as a nationalist and that he will be greatly missed.
Kawooya and his wife had travelled from Koboko to Mbarara to witness the installation of Mbarara District Khadi, Sheikh Abdulla Mukwaya who replaced the late Sheikh Ahammed Kwikiriza who died in a car accident on the eve of Iddi Day in 2017.
