Ora County MP against relocating Congolese refugees to Arua from Zombo

Ora County member of parliament Lawrence Songa is against a plan by government to relocate Congolese refugees from Zombo to Arua district.

The legislator says the refugees who have been accepted by the hosting communities in Zombo since they share the same cultures among other issues are most likely to loose their identity once they are relocated to Arua.

However, the Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Hillary Oneck insists that the refugees will be relocated to Arua, noting that Zombo district lacks the necessary facilities to host refugees.

At least 3,000 Congolese refugees were hosted in Uganda earlier this month after fleeing their homes as a result of inter-communal clashes in north-eastern Ituri province.
