The land has to be deforested for at least the past 10 years and have digitized coordinates and that the landowners must have legal rights to use the land for the next 30 years or more. The statement reads in part.
The statement further stated that, 1MTN also seeks to build a bio-economy, creating hundreds of jobs in Northern Uganda through partnering with and supporting landowners to plant polyculture native bamboo to restore degraded land, as well as remove carbon dioxide pollution from the atmosphere.
Kristjan Raude, CEO and Co-Founder of 1MTN, observed that they are a company with a strong social impact, focused not only on restoring nature but also on supporting local communities and mitigating climate change.
Headquartered in Tallinn, with offices in Kampala and Nairobi, it asserts to restore 1 million hectares of degraded or idle land in Africa by 2030 by planting native or naturalized bamboo species.
1MTN was established by Anete Garoza, a respected climate lawyer and Kristjan Raude, a long-time angel investor and accomplished entrepreneur.
