KIKUUBE: Medical officials at Kikuube health center IV have been cautioned against the misuse of an incubator machine which was procured from the proceeds of the recently concluded Empango marathon.
The call was made by the prime minister of Bunyoro Kitara kingdom Andrew Byakutaga during the official handover of the incubator to the health centre.
Byakutaga urged the medical personnel at the health center to protect the machine well and use it for its purpose for the betterment of the region and health sector at large
It should be observed that many health centres in the country are grappling with insufficient incubators. The health centers they have since then opted for Kangaroo care system for babies.
Kangaroo care, or skin-to-skin care, is a technique practiced on newborn, usually preterm, infants wherein the infant is held, skin-to-skin, with an adult to share warmth.
Florence Natumanya, the woman Member of Parliament Kikuube district said the machine will address challenges of mothers who give birth to premature babies by providing them the required warmth. She added that it will also help to decongest Hoima regional referral hospital with cases of premature babies.
Dr. Joseph Ruyonga the member of parliament of Hoima west city division called upon women to always deliver from health centers in order to be able to get services like incubators easier in order to save lives of premature babies.
Peter Banura the Kikuube district Chairperson LCV commended the kingdom for prioritizing the procurement of an incubator machine to save the lives of the children in the district.
“At least 30 premature babies from within the district and the neighboring areas are registered every 2-3 months,” he says.
Over 200 people participated in the emapago run on Saturday 9th June organised by Bunyoro Kingdom as one of the early activities to mark the 21st coronation anniversary of Omukama Solomon Iguru.
