NWOYA . Residents in Purongo and Anaka Sub Counties in Nwoya district are living in fear following the registration of two separate armed robberies in the past two weeks.
On the 8th of January this year, a Village Savings and Loan Association-VSLA group, Waneno Anyim was robbed of 32 million shillings by two unknown armed men who allegedly used two guns. It was earlier reported to be only 20 million shillings. On the 20th January also this year, a case of armed robbery of a motorcycle was reported in Anaka Sub County.
Benson Otto, the LCIII Chairperson of Purongo Sub County said that the alleged armed robbers attacked the treasurer of the group, before making away with the cash box containing the cash.
Otto said that as a result, people in Olwiyo and Purongo Sub County in general have been living in fear of being attacked by the unknown armed men.
Emmanuel Orach, the Nwoya district LCV Chairperson says there`s need for routine security meetings to be conducted in order to trap and arrest the suspects who have continued to terrorize the locals.
Orach said that the attackers, according to a security meeting, normally attack at the wee hours of the night when people are deeply asleep.
According to Orach, some arrests have been made, but says guns could still be in the wrongs in the community.
