ZOMBO. Taxi and truck drivers who frequently use Nebbi-Goli-Paidha road have expressed worry about the onset of rains that normally hamper their movement.
According to some taxi operators from Paidha stages, the heavy rain received within the past two days has forced many passengers to cancel their journeys due to unbearable road conditions.
Okello Otiti, a truck driver based in Zombo district, says the government has put a deaf ear to their cries over the appalling condition of the road for decades.
“I want to call upon the government to expedite the process to work on the road, and apply Marrum on some dangerous spots like in Jukia and Goli near Cathedral in order to make movement easier for us,” he said.
Christine Lemberach a business woman in Paidha says Awasi road has become impassable and calls for the intervention by Zombo district authorities.
“We have lost a lot in terms of business opportunities especially during the rainy season, our leaders should come to our rescue because we are suffering,” she observed.
Recently during the tour of State minister for Works and transport Musa Ecweru, leaders from greater Nebbi expressed their disappointment over the road saying they will not vote for the current regime in 2026 if the road is not tarmacked as promised by President Museveni in 2016 general elections.
Nebbi Goli-Vura road, which is a central government road that connects travelers to DR Congo, has been a matter of concern for 20 years ago. The road in question has been a death trap for both business people and pedestrians.
According to a Police report, early this year, two people perished in a fatal accident at Jukia Hill where a truck knocked a cyclist with a passenger while trying to dodge potholes.
