ARUA. The vice president Jessica Alupo has urged parents within West Nile to embrace Muni University for a better future for their children.
She made this remark this afternoon during the installation of 2nd chancellor Muni University Rt.Rev Dr. Henry Luke Orombi and 5th graduation ceremony.
According to the vice president most parents in West Nile region send their children to Kampala and abroad in pursuit of education despite the numerous schools institutions in the region.
In his speech Orombi said that he is ready to revamp Muni University to one of the major institutions of higher education in the country.
Orombi also emphasized the need for unity among students and the university staff for the institution to achieve academic Excellency.
Orombi replaces Dr Eric Tiyo Sekebuga Adriko, who led the university from its inception in 2013 until his term of office ended last year.
Henry Luke Orombi was born in Pakwach, North Western Uganda, he was a Ugandan Anglican bishop and later served as Archbishop of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala from 2004 until his retirement in December 2012, two years earlier than expected.
He was succeeded as Archbishop by Stanley Ntagali, who was consecrated in December 2012.
Joyce Kaduchu the state minister for Primary education was concerned about the poor performace of learners in Westnile in both PLE and UCE examinations.
She rallied all old students of schools in west Nile to return to their former schools and support them.
“Education is a shared responsibility,” she said.
She further urged parents to support the education of their children by contributing to their feeding.
“Let’s emulate Katakwi district by feeding our children. Our children cannot perform well on empty stomachs,” she revealed.
The Minister of education Janet Museveni in her message said she is confident that the student body and the entire university will benefit from his leadership skills which he exhibited while he served as archbishop of church of Uganda.
She encouraged the staff of the university to continue undertaking taking research whose findings will address the challenges in the communalities and hence contribute to the development of the region. Muni University is a public institution established in 2013 by the government in accordance with the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act of 2006.
