AMURU: The leaders and residents of Amuru district have run to court seeking to revoke a cabinet`s resolution to evict occupants of Apaa Township bordering Amuru and Adjumani districts.

Led by their Members of Parliament Gilbert Olanya of Kilak South, Anthony Akol of Kilak North, and Lucy Akello, the Woman MP, the leaders want the court to stay the directive and allow the occupants of the land to continue staying.

Anthony Akol said last week that documents and a team of lawyers had already been set to challenge the decision.

Besides seeking a court injunction, the leaders and residents have also resolved and started a sit-down strike as a signal to the government to respect the human rights and dignity of the people living in Apaa Township.

The resolutions followed a pronouncement by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja that the Cabinet had resolved to evict all occupants of Apaa Township effective the 16th of May 2023.

Nabbanja said that the government has set aside 2.5 billion shillings to compensate and relocate the occupants of the area within a period of three months.
