President Yoweri Museveni and the first Lady Janet Museveni arrive for nomination at the Electoral commission offices

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been officially nominated as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate for Uganda’s 2026 general elections.

 The president arrived at the Electoral Commission headquarters at 9:55 am, accompanied by First Lady Janet Kataha Museven and NRM party delegates.

Museveni provided his education papers, certificate of verification of signatures, proof of Shs 20 million payment, voter proof, national ID, and official campaign agent details.

The chairperson of the Electoral Commission Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama declared Museven duly nominated after verifying the documents and handed him a soft copy of the voters’ register.

Byabakama also handed over security guards who will over see his security tips. In his remarks, Museveni thanked the Electoral Commission and NRM for their trust. “I want to thank the NRM members for entrusting me and electing me as the NRM flag bearer for the period of 2026/31,” he said.

President Museveni’s campaigns will run under the theme: “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status”.

Addressing reporters,  President Museveni emphasized that transformation must reach ordinary Ugandans at the grassroots adding that Everyone must be involved in the money economy with ekibaaro.

The president pledged continuation of free education for the children of the poor in the government schools and making sure that the tarmac roads are done in time.
