GULU. Former Member of Parliament Rtd. Major Rwaboni Okwir, has described as ‘’people who eat their own children’’ the ministers implicated in diverting relief items meant for the vulnerable communities in North Eastern Uganda.
Rwaboni who was the Western Youth Member of Parliament and Head of Presidential Candidate Kizza Besigye said that the Ministers who diverted the items are frustrating the government`s efforts to create wealth, provide security, and improve the livelihoods of the people.
Rwaboni who is currently the Director of Youth and Institution at the state House told our reporter during an interview with our reporter.
The outspoken senior military officer is known for moving motion to censor ministers whom he said were under performing in the 9th parliament.
He noted that corruption has eaten up Uganda saying that such ministers are like chicks that eat their own eggs which are supposed to give them chicks.
“People who steal the mabati, drugs in hospital, goats are like chicken who eat their own eggs because these are supposed to be seeds of development.” he said.
According to Major Rwaboni, the President and government have come up with relief items to ensure sustainable peace and development in the drought and security-stricken Northern Eastern Region through human capital development since the disarmament and many more initiatives have failed.
There has been uproar after information emerged that a section of ministers diverted more than 100,000 iron sheets for disarmed youth and the vulnerable people in the Karamoja sub-region for their personal gains.
The iron sheets were procured from the Shs39 billion supplementary budget passed by Parliament in 2021.
Reports have also emerged that most households in Karamoja have goat fewer than 16 goats promised by the government. A total of Shs25 billion was spent on buying the goats but it is reported that some of their cost was inflated up to Shs800,000, some arrived sick while others felt dead and were also not vaccinated.
