PAKWACH: Pakwach police is investigating circumstances under which a group of people set a blaze an excavator belonging to Coil company limited and injured the workers at Wadilai irrigation scheme.

Pakwach district police commander SP Samuel Lubega says that the incident happened on Monday 22nd May 2023 at 11.30am in Wadilai sub county, Pakwach district.

He revealed that three workers of Coil company limited were shot by arrows during the scuffle but were later rushed to the health centre for medical attention. However, he reveals that no arrests and that the suspects are at large.

Davidson Oramba Choope the Wadilai sub county chairperson says the incident was sparked off by the delays by government to compensate the land owners where the irrigation scheme is located.

In response, Pakwach resident district commissioner Paul Eseru confirmed the incident saying that the angry residents demand compensation from the government over their land being encroached by the ongoing works.

He says that the payments have been delayed due to internal land wrangles by two clans of Paten and Ragem.

Efforts to get comments from site manager Coil company limited proved futile at the time of filling this story.
