KAKUMIRO. President Yoweri Museveni has reiterated his support in the fight against corruption.
The President was this afternoon officiating at the 37th Liberation Day celebrations of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) which were held in Kamumiro district under the theme our resolute effort to transform Uganda is a promise we shall fulfill.
The President’s remarks follows public outcry over the rampant cases of corruption in the country with the latest one at Entebbe airport.
The President revealed that he has been information that district service commissions are selling local government jobs and others asking for sexual favors in exchange for jobs.
Museveni asked Ugandans to provide all evidence they have against the perpetrators he has called “pigs” so that action is taken.
“I have heard the bazukulu crying about the district service commission selling local government jobs. I have heard of girls being exploited sexually as bribes for jobs. Get evidence please and we expunge those pigs,” he said.
He said that those that are corrupt shall be apprehended if found guilty.
“Luzira Prison has abundant space for them,” he added.
He lauded some government agencies for exposing the corrupt.
“I have seen some people that had stolen PDM and Emyoga funds arrested or forced to return the money, he said.
He tasked the police and District Internal and Security Officers (DISOs) to lead the investigations, report, and apprehend those involved in corruption.
The President also warned Ugandans against sectarianism of tribe and religion which he said was an offence. “We long ago banished sectarianism which is both a criminal and electoral offence,” said the President.
He said that someone can lose his seat of an elected office if he proved that he used sectarianism.
The President also commissioned the Kakumiro NRM party offices and the Buhimba-Nalweyo Bulamagi-Igayaaza-Kakumiro road project to ease the exploration and production of oil and gas in the Bunyoro Sub-region.
