KOLOLO:President Yoweri Museveni has reiterated the need for diversification of agriculture for the transformation of the economy.This time round, the President who is currently recovering from COVID-19 was not physically present during the budget reading but was following the proceedings virtually from State House Nakasero.
In his remarks, the president also emphasized the need for value addition to raw materials. He urged Ugandans to focus on manufacturing goods locally and later export them in order to reap big out of them. He said with the good infrastructure in place, the revitalization of the railway system and the improved literacy levels among Ugandans, every effort should be geared towards value addition. He said this will improve on the growth of the economy.
Commenting about the debt burden that the country is grappling with, he said Uganda should borrow with discipline or abandon the whole idea of borrowing.
The President further thanked Ugandans who wished him a quick recovery when he was battling with COVID19. He also congratulated the NRM candidate Mary Akol for emerging victorious in the Bukedea LC5 by-election.
