KAMPALA:Police have arrested 20 suspects in connection with an attack on Lhubiriha secondary school in Kasese on Friday last week which left at least 41 people dead.

The attack saw a group of suspected ADF fighters raid the school at night before firing indiscriminately into the girls’ dormitory but also throwing a bomb into the boys’ dormitory.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told reporters at Naguru police headquarters this morning that among those arrested is the school director and the head teacher to help with investigations.

Enanga described the attack and killing of the innocent students as a cowardice act on the side of the ADF rebels saying that police with its sister security agents will continue to pursuit and ensure people and their property are protected.

Enanga said that out of 25 students bodies 23 have been handed over to their families for decent burial while the two are waiting collection. The police spokes person further said forensic experts have gone to Fort Portal mortuary to check the 17 bodies which were burnt beyond recognition adding that DNA samples will be taken from relatives for true Identification of the bodies.

The arrest of suspected collaborators follows reports by the UPDF Mountain Division Commander, Gen Dick Olum that the attackers had spent two days in the area prior to the attack and that they could have been helped out by some of the locals.

President Museveni on Sunday revealed the UPDF would deploy more troops to fight ADF rebels, whose group has been designated by the US as a terrorist outfit.
