KAMPALA: Parliament has paid special tribute to fallen Supreme Court judge Stella Arach Amoko 69, who passed on Saturday at Nakasero Hospital.
The casket of the fallen Judge was received by the speaker of parliament Anita Among.
In her communication to parliament speaker Anita Among described the late justice Stella as a pillar that cannot be replaced.
The Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja in her motion to parliament described the late Justice Amoko as an icon of justice, a mentor to judicial officers who contributed highly to the strengthening of the judiciary.
“The late justice was a true legal profession who dedicated her carrier life to the judiciary. She made her mark while at the commercial division of the high court, that alternative dispute resolution strategies were introduced,” said the prime minister.
She further said that Amoko was behind the licensing of many universities to teach law.
“She was a mentor of many at the bar and the bench,” she revealed.
The opposition chief whip in parliament John Baptist Nambesha described the late Amoko as an honest, transparent judicial officer.
“Several times judicial officials have been implicated in illegal mass eviction of people, soliciting and taking bribes among other ills. I therefore urge other judicial officials to emulate the late Amoko’s stance on accountability, transparency in order to dispense justice meaningfully,” he remarked.
West Nile region legislators described the passing of lady justice Stella as a loss of an icon of development in the region and the country at Large.
Speaking about her demise at parliament Okoro county mp Gabriel Okumu said that Amoko worked diligently in the judiciary and appealed to the girl child in Westnile to emulate her and look at her as an example to excel in education and serve in high positions.

The state minister for Northern Uganda Grace Kwiyucwiny said Amoko was among the first women in greater Nebbi to go to the University. She said Amoko contributed to the fight for rights of women and girls in the region.
Pakwach woman Member of Parliament Jane Avur said the late Amoko was generous and an icon in Greater Nebbi as well as the first female graduate in her clan.
Arach-Amoko has served as a Justice of the Supreme Court since 2013. She joined the High Court in 1997 before she was promoted to the level of Justice of the Court of Appeal in 2010.
