Security leaders in Panyimur Town Council, Pakwach District, have issued a strong alert urging the public to remain vigilant following the emergence of fraudsters targeting local residents.

Authorities say the suspects are preying on vendors at Panyimur Food Market and farmers growing cereal crops such as sorghum, maize, simsim, and groundnuts.

The warning comes after the arrest of a 19-year-old suspect, identified as Muhammad Kumagum, who allegedly posed as a representative of a non-governmental organization offering low-cost agricultural loans to farmers under the pretext of boosting farm inputs.

Vendors who spoke to our reporter said the suspect demanded a fee of 40,000 shillings from victims in order to access the purported support.

The Officer in Charge of Panyimur Police Station, Ojiambo Geoffrey, confirmed the arrest and said police recovered four forms believed to have been used to register unsuspecting victims.

He condemned the fraudulent scheme and urged community members to promptly report similar incidents to security authorities for swift action.
