The Member of Parliament for Padyere County in Nebbi District, Otimgiw Isaac Ismail, has urged government to fast-track the construction of an industrial park in Omvuro Village, located in Mbaro East Parish, Nyaravur-Angal Town Council.
Otimgiw expressed concern over what he described as government inaction, noting that five years have passed since the industrial park initiative gained prominence without tangible progress on the ground.
In 2021, residents of Omvuro Village donated approximately 510 acres of land along the Nebbi–Pakwach road to the Uganda Investment Authority for the establishment of the park. The community viewed the move as a significant contribution toward stimulating development and creating opportunities for the youth as a way to combat poverty.
The proposed industrial park was also expected to enhance the commercialization of cassava production through value addition, given the crop’s ready market and its use as a raw material in alcohol production.
However, the Nebbi District LC5 Chairperson, Urombi Emmanuel, expressed frustration over delays by the Ministry of Finance in operationalizing the project, despite its anticipated economic benefits to the area.
Meanwhile, during a recent engagement with the parliamentary Finance Committee, Members of Parliament reaffirmed government’s commitment to developing the industrial park, noting that a developer for the project has already been identified.
