The Pakwach District Council has allocated a significant portion of its 2026/2027 financial year budget to the education sector, with a focus on improving school infrastructure across the district.
According to a council circular, the Chairperson of the Social Service Committee, Walter Okello, said the approved budget includes funding for the construction of two-stance toilet facilities at Puyo, Pakwach Public, Ayara, and Alwi primary schools. Each project has been allocated Shs15 million.
The council also approved Shs27 million for the completion of a classroom block at Pokwero Primary School, while Shs136 million has been earmarked for the construction of a three-classroom block at Jakok Primary School.
Apar-Ario Primary School in Pakwinyo Parish, Wadelai Sub-county, is also set to benefit from the construction of two classroom blocks and an office at a total cost of Shs128 million.
Other projects captured in the budget include the elevation of classroom blocks at Pacego and Nyakagei primary schools, as well as the completion of fencing works at Wadelai Seed Secondary School.
However, the District Secretary for Social Services, Dinah Namugaya, expressed concern over the exclusion of reroofing works for Payila Primary School from the approved budget. She called for increased funding to support the rehabilitation of schools across the district.
The council also allocated part of the education budget to sports activities, while more than Shs9 billion was approved for staff salaries.
