The King of Alur, His Royal Majesty Philip Olarker Rauni III, has called for unity among all Alur people as the foundation for sustainable growth and development.
King Rauni III made the remarks while engaging with executive members of Alur Professional Women Association Network (APWAN) at Gorilla Africa Guest House in Entebbe on June 11.
The APWAN executives, led by Dr Jane Acan, had presented a proposal dubbed “Integration and Awareness Initiative 2026” – a strategic programme designed to bring together Alur professionals and communities in Greater Nebbi and the suburbs of Kampala.
Dr Acan said the initiative seeks to promote professionalism, mentorship, education, and leadership development among women and girls through targeted engagements.
In his remarks, King Rauni III said historically, Alur Kingdom has been about promotion of culture and tradition but is now transforming into a development vehicle steeped in positive aspects of culture.
The King emphasized that he, and Alur Kingdom, will support whole-heartedly groups of people, like APWAN, who champion the development of the Alur society.
King Rauni III said while there seems to be a misconception that the Alur, as he put it, “are small people and can be played with”, the reality is that the Alur are only quiet and polite people but quite strong in number, strength, and the ability to chart their development path.
The King said once the Alur unite and forge a way forward, they would be unstoppable because they have what it takes to transform themselves. The King urged Alur people in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and across the globe to unite, support each other, and do what is good, in line with the age-old principle of “Kura Matira”. He said Alur kingdom stands for unity and oneness without any discrimination.
Ubimu Rauni III encouraged the Alur to harness the very rich Alur heritage and create cultural and traditional products like food, art, crafts, and other creative products and services that can be commercialized and monetized. He noted that even the Alur themselves have the numbers to support such innovations to scale.
The King appealed to APWAN and all Alur groups to spread common messaging on pertinent issues like unity, togetherness, education, girl-child and women empowerment, environmental protection, investments back home, and business support through what he coined as BABA – Buy Alur, Build Alur.
Ubimu Rauni III appreciated the pivotal role women play in the Alur society since time immemorial, urging APWAN to promote the positive roles women play, adding that he truly believes in what APWAN stands for.
The King said not only does he, as Ubimu of Alur, supports the APWAN vision and is proud of it but will ensure that Alur Kingdom collaborate with the association to realize the vision for the betterment of Alur society. He said APWAN should target Alur girls and women spread all over the world by creating elaborate structures.
King Rauni III pledged five million shillings for the APWAN community engagements and another five million shillings for the maiden APWAN Dinner slated for November 2026 at The Sheraton in Kampala.
