 Leaders in Zombo District have reaffirmed their commitment to fighting corruption as a key strategy for improving public service delivery and transforming the livelihoods of local communities.

The commitment was made during the State of the District Address delivered on Monday, July 20, where political and administrative leaders emphasized accountability, transparency, and collective responsibility in implementing government programmes.

Ora County Member of Parliament Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny called on leaders, public servants, and stakeholders to embrace self-reflection, integrity, and teamwork in ensuring effective service delivery.

She expressed concern over the continued lack of access to clean and safe water in some communities, saying the situation requires coordinated action from all stakeholders to ensure essential services reach people at the grassroots.

“Communities in several villages still lack clean and safe water. We must work together to ensure government services effectively reach every citizen,” Kwiyucwiny said.

District Woman Member of Parliament Teopista Acamfua urged leaders and residents to abandon divisive politics and instead unite around the common objective of developing Zombo District. She warned that poor performance in public service would not be tolerated, emphasizing the need for accountability and results-oriented leadership.

Assistant Resident District Commissioner Bruno Manano reminded citizens that they have a constitutional right to monitor government programmes and development projects being implemented by public institutions. He encouraged residents to actively participate in oversight efforts without fear or intimidation, saying the government’s anti-corruption campaign requires vigilance from everyone.

Manano noted that the district must embrace the President’s call for a “no sleep” approach in the fight against corruption, urging leaders and citizens alike to remain alert in safeguarding public resources.

Meanwhile, Zombo District Chairperson James Oruna Oyullu revealed that the district’s wage bill for the 2026/2027 financial year stands at UGX 19.23 billion. The allocation will facilitate staffing and service delivery across key sectors, including primary and secondary education, health, production and marketing, and skills development.

District leaders expressed optimism that strengthened accountability, active citizen participation, and prudent management of public resources will contribute to improved service delivery and sustainable socio-economic development across Zombo District.
