President Museveni laying a wreath on the casket of Gen. Moses Ali

Parliament on Tuesday July 21,2026 held a special sitting to pay tribute to the late Gen. Moses Ali, one of Uganda’s longest-serving political leaders and a distinguished statesman.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni joined Members of Parliament, government officials, family members, and other mourners at Parliament to honour the former First Deputy Prime Minister and Adjumani West County Member of Parliament.

After laying a wreath on the casket, President Museveni paid tribute to Gen. Moses Ali, reflecting on the journey they shared in serving the country over several decades.

The President described the late General as a true patriot, freedom fighter, statesman, and development-oriented leader who made significant contributions to Uganda’s political and socio-economic transformation.

President Museveni had earlier announced that Gen. Moses Ali passed away at Nakasero Hospital at about 4:00 p.m., describing his death as a great loss to the nation.

Earlier in the day, the cortege carrying the body of the late Gen. Moses Ali arrived at Parliament, where it was received by Members of Parliament led by the Speaker before the commencement of the special sitting.

Gen. Moses Ali served as the Member of Parliament for Adjumani West County and previously held the positions of First Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business in Parliament. Throughout his decades of public service, he played a significant role in Uganda’s governance and national development.
