Yaobai Cement Karamoja has entered into a sponsorship partnership with Uganda Police Football Club, committing Shs450 million to the club for the first year of the agreement.

The deal was signed at Uganda Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, in a partnership that the two sides say is intended to strengthen Police FC’s competitiveness while supporting community development through football.

The signing brought together officials from Yaobai Cement, Police FC, the Uganda Police Force and the companies involved in facilitating the partnership.

Police FC Chairman, Senior Commissioner of Police Timothy Halango, witnessed the signing alongside Yaobai Cement Managing Director Ma Chao, Deputy Managing Director Xing Chao, and Yaobai local partner and director Ambrose Byona.

Partnership targets community development

Yaobai Cement Marketing and Performance Manager Marvin N. Biyinzika said the company’s decision to partner with Police FC was influenced by the club’s role in engaging young people through sport.

He said football provides young people with an alternative to crime, idleness and other social challenges, making the partnership part of the company’s broader interest in community development.

Biyinzika noted that although Yaobai Cement is relatively new on the Ugandan market, the company has been expanding its presence across different parts of the country.

Yaobai backs Police FC’s revival

Police FC, which has a history spanning 61 years, has previously won the Uganda Premier League and the CECAFA Club Championship.

Despite its historical achievements and contribution to Ugandan football, the club has faced resource constraints that have affected its ability to compete at the highest level.

The partnership is therefore expected to provide additional financial support as the club seeks to rebuild its competitiveness and strengthen its football development structures.

Yaobai Cement described Police FC as a “sleeping giant” with a strong footballing heritage and said it believes sustained investment can help the club regain its former stature.

Sponsorship linked to performance

The Shs450 million payment represents the first-year sponsorship commitment.

According to the partners, the agreement is expected to grow over time, with future funding levels to be influenced by the club’s performance and further agreements between Yaobai Cement and Police FC.

The company also said the partnership will extend beyond financial sponsorship, with plans to make its cement products accessible to Police FC players, technical staff and supporters.

Yaobai said this would help connect the partnership to homes and businesses associated with the club.

Police FC welcomes investment

Police FC welcomed the sponsorship, saying the financial support would contribute to the club’s efforts to improve its institutional capacity and competitiveness in domestic and regional competitions.

Club officials expressed optimism that the partnership could help create a stronger foundation for talent development and enable Police FC to pursue long-term sporting ambitions.

Representatives from APT Communications, Urban Native and Yaobai Cement’s marketing team also attended the event and highlighted the role of the various partners in bringing the sponsorship agreement to fruition.

The partnership positions Yaobai Cement as an official partner of Police FC, with both sides expecting the collaboration to deliver benefits for the club, its supporters and the wider community.
