The leadership of Paidha Town Council in Zombo District has commenced the leveling of market grounds as part of efforts to create more space and improve the working environment for traders.

The exercise, according to Paidha Town Council LC3 Chairperson Amos Jacan, began at the expansive Gaga Market and is expected to extend to the charcoal market and the town bus park.

Jacan dismissed reports that the exercise is intended to displace traders or other people operating in the affected areas, describing the ongoing works as a normal town council exercise aimed at improving the available trading space.

He called on vendors and other business operators to cooperate with the authorities as the exercise continues, saying the additional space will enable traders to conduct their businesses in a more organized environment.

The development comes months after Paidha Town Council stepped up enforcement of its trade order, a move that has affected business operations across the rapidly growing urban centre. Paidha, one of the major commercial centres in Zombo District, serves thousands of residents and traders from surrounding communities.

The council says the market improvement initiative is intended to support orderly trade and better utilization of public spaces as commercial activities continue to expand in Paidha Town.
