Security authorities in Zombo District have issued a decisive warning to the public to cease all smuggling activities across the Uganda-DR Congo border.

Resident District Commissioner Festus Ayikobua highlighted that numerous smuggling operations are being facilitated by motorcycle riders, who exploit multiple routes between the two countries.

According to reports, over 160 illegal “panya” routes across the West Nile region—including Arua, Zombo, and Nebbi—are actively used by smugglers to transport various contraband items. These include cosmetics, petroleum products, cigarettes, and other goods. This illicit trade is causing substantial losses in government revenue and undermining lawful economic activities.

Authorities are committed to intensifying efforts to curb this illegal practice and safeguard the economic interests of the region.
