Zombo District authorities have petitioned the Ministry of Works and Transport over a large and growing trench caused by soil erosion, which is threatening the southern section of the multimillion-shilling Paidha Central Market in Paidha Town Council.

The erosion is part of a wider network of deep trenches developing across Paidha Town Council, with one section threatening to cut off the Oyullu Road between Awinjiri and Kololo cells.

The road is an important route for traders and residents accessing the market. Other sections of the erosion are also threatening homes and infrastructure in Anyong and Solia cells.

Paidha LCIII Chairperson Amos Jacan presented a report detailing the extent of the problem before handing it over to the Minister of State for Works, Fred Byamukama, seeking government intervention.

Local leaders are calling for urgent government intervention, warning that continued soil erosion could cause serious damage to roads, homes and other public infrastructure in the area.

The erosion has been worsened by persistent rainfall, with water continuing to wash away soil and deepen the affected areas.

Leaders are particularly concerned about the impact on Paidha Central Market, which is an important source of revenue for the town council.

They say urgent measures are needed to control the erosion and protect the market, roads and surrounding communities from further damage.
