At least seven water sources in Paidha Sub-county and Paidha Town Council in Zombo District have been rehabilitated under a corporate social responsibility initiative by the Alur Cultural Festival.
The intervention, which cost 5.3 million shillings, targeted four boreholes and three spring wells that had been non-functional for periods ranging from one to 12 years.
The initiative follows the annual Alur Cultural Festival held in Paidha in August and is intended to give back to the communities that host and support the event.
The rehabilitated water sources were commissioned on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Cwaramara Cell in Umua Ward, Paidha Town Council, during an event attended by representatives of Ker Alur Kingdom, Kaal Umua Paidha and local residents.
The facilities restored include Gwenumadhi Spring Wellin Cwaramara Cell, Kayathe Yao Borehole in Kaya, Amis Spring Well in Amisi Cell, Kpelekpethe Borehole in Cana Parish, Konamalire Borehole in Rukidi Cell, Kololo Borehole in Kololo Cell, and a borehole at Mvugu Lower Primary School.
Most of the facilities had been out of use for years, forcing residents to walk long distances in search of clean and safe water.
Derrick Passy, Communications Director of the Alur Cultural Festival, said the intervention was only the beginning, noting that the organisers had identified several other non-functional water sources in need of repair.
