ZOMBO RESIDENTS DEMAND ROAD SIGNS AT PADEA CUSTOMS JUNCTION

Residents and local leaders in Abanga Sub-county, Zombo District, are calling on the government to install road signs at the junction leading to Padea Customs to guide motorists.

The demand follows a recent accident involving a Kenyan truck whose driver failed to navigate back after mistakenly taking the road to Zeu Sub-county instead of heading to Padea.

Rwothomio Peter, a resident of Okeyo, said many drivers miss the route to Padea Customs due to the absence of clear signage at the junction. He noted that the area lacks proper road signs to direct motorists to the customs point at the Uganda–Democratic Republic of Congo border.

Unconfirmed reports also indicate that some foreign long-distance truck drivers have experienced similar challenges. Speaking anonymously, they said they struggled to locate Padea Customs because there were no signs to guide them.

In a similar incident last week, another Kenyan truck driver failed to reach Padea Customs and instead ended up on the road to Zombo Town Council after missing the correct turn due to the lack of signage.

However, Susan Kataike, the Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Works and Transport, previously said the government is in the process of installing road signs on key routes. She, however, warned that the effort is being undermined by the persistent vandalism of road signage.
