Leaders in Greater Nebbi have eulogized Retired Lt Col Pius Alitema, the former Resident District Commissioner Zombo, describing him as a gallant soldier whose generous contributions will be missed across the country where he served.

Lt Col Pius Alitema succumbed to complications of diabetes on Friday last week while en-route to Arua regional referral hospital where he was referred for better management of his condition.

According to Dr. Mark Bramali the Zombo district health officer who has been treating, the deceased, he says he has been battling with low blood sugar.

Robert Abak, the RDC Nebbi says the whole greater Nebbi is failing to come to terms over the demise of Col Pius Alitema, given his great contributions to in the land as well as the country.

He says him and late Col Pius Alitema were both secondary school teachers before they found their way to the patch of administration.

During the requiem mass at Nebbi Cathedral on Tuesday, the State Minister for Northern Uganda Grace Freedom Kwiocwiny said during Col. Alitema’s two years stay in Zombo district, he united both the political and technical staff in order to achieve better service delivery.

A special council meeting in honor of the late Pius Alitema will proceed on Thursday morning at 9:00am at St. Dominic Catholic church playground and subsequently a requiem mass to celebrate his life journey.

The late Alitema will be buried at ancestral home in Maracha district on Saturday 10:00am.
