ZOMBO: As learners from both primary and secondary schools across the country break off for their second term today, some stakeholders in Zombo district are concerned about their uncontrolled movement during holidays coupled with social life in urban and rural centers.

Innocent Godfrey Onega, chairperson local council III Paidha town council observes that the uncontrolled movement of school children exposes them to risks of HIV/AIDS, raped and defilement among others.

Onega advises parents to ensure that they keep their children busy by engaging them in domestic work to deter them from moving aimlessly especially at night.

Rapheal Ongom, the Head teacher Paidha secondary school in Paidha town council urges parents to monitor their children and protect them from wrong elements.

“As we break off for holidays we request parents or guardians to play their role by nurturing the young ones as they are no longer in our custody,” he said.

Rachael Atimnirwoth, one of the parents in Zombo noted that the perpetrators of defilement and rape take advantage of the children during their holidays.

She however, suggests that parents should keep their children busy with garden works on the onset of rain as one of the ways to get their term school fees.

Learners will stay for three weeks’ holiday and according to the academic calendar, the third term will commence on 18th September 2023.
