KOLOLO. President Museveni has described the late Charles Engola as a patriot, a good and courageous soldier as his praise name states.

He said Engola stood out from the lies peddled against the NRM by some cadres in Northern Uganda.

The President further lauded the late Engola for his brilliant fight against the LRA rebels and pacification of Northern Uganda.

The President was speaking during the official funeral service organized for Engola at Kololo Airstrip in Kampala. Engola was shot dead by his body guard on Tuesday last week at his home in Kyanja a Kampala city suburb.

Museveni urged NRM cadres and the political class to work for patriotism by desisting from the mentality of demanding for salary increments and allowances because it’s not sustainable at the moment. He said that the demand for high pay for soldiers is detrimental to the recruitment of manpower into the army and to the purchase of military equipment to protect the country.

The president said that the army has solved the education challenge of educating children of army officers by setting up schools for their children. He said that it has a plan of setting up an army university.

He also reiterated the need for salary enhancement for scientists saying that they are needed more than any other professionals.

Meanwhile the minister for Labour and social development Betty Among also added her voice to other officials by condemning the culture of some Ugandans who celebrate the death of others.

At the same event, Sam Engola the brother to the deceased said the body was found riddled with 28 bullets, his brother has revealed. He said his brother fought so many wars but it is shocking he was killed with all the protection he had on him.
