BUNYORO: The Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Andrew Byakutaga has insisted that the people of Bugungu are still under the leadership of Bunyoro.

Byakutaga says that, the election of the Bagungu cultural leader which took place on Saturday was illegal, insisting that there is no any other cultural leader in Bunyoro apart from Iguru Solomon Gafabusa.

Byakutaga who was addressing journalists on Tuesday evening at his office in Hoima City said that Bunyoro is opposing all the secession activities of Bagungu saying that Bunyoro is multi-ethnic society.

He claims that there are few individuals who are pushing for the secession for their own personal interested adding that they want to destabilize the peace of Bunyoro.

The Bagungu, who have been pushing for the formation of their independent cultural institution known as “Buttebbengwa Bwa Bugungu,” elected Lukumu Norman as their cultural leader on Saturday.

However, Lukumu insists that his election was within the law of Uganda.

He says that their next step is to submit their documents including the district council resolution, clan council resolutions, elders resolution and their cultural institution symbols to the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development to facilitate the realization of the Buttebbengwa as per the mother constitution of Uganda.
