ZOMBO. The Education department in Zombo district has dismissed at least five teachers over alcoholism.

The Zombo district education officer Nicholas DEO Odeba reveals that the district decided to terminate the contracts of the culprits after found addicted to alcoholism rather than teaching. The schools where the teachers are from were not mentioned.

Odeba attributes the poor performance of pupils in the district to the teachers who have resorted to excessive consumption of alcohol.

He warned that the district will launch a crackdown on the teachers who have resorted to drinking alcohol and riding bodaboda during school hours.

The DEO also warned the head teachers over failure to manage the teachers saying they will be charged in the courts of laws.
