

The late Hon. Helen Nakimuli

The late Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Helen Nakimuli, passed away on April 19, 2026, at Alexandria Medical Center, Kampala following complications arising from a surgical procedure, marking a significant loss to Uganda’s 11th Parliament and the constituents she served.
Hon. Nakimuli, who represented Kalangala District under the National Unity Platform (NUP), was widely recognized for her active participation in parliamentary proceedings and her consistent advocacy on issues affecting her electorate. She was last seen in parlaiment on April 15, 2026, during plenary.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, described the late legislator as “a dedicated and committed representative who tirelessly championed the interests of her people.” In an official statement, the Speaker noted that Parliament stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and the people of Kalangala District, while honoring her legacy of service.
Parliament has since released the official funeral arrangements through the Office of the Speaker, outlining a week-long mourning programme that will culminate in her burial on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at her ancestral home in Luweero District.
According to the programme, on Monday, April 20, 2026, the cortege will depart for Kalangala District by ferry via Nakiwogo, Entebbe, at 2:00 p.m., following the completion of the postmortem process.
On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the body will lie in state at Kalangala District Headquarters to allow the public to pay their last respects, alongside a special local council session in her honor. The remains will later be transported back to Kampala via Masaka for an overnight stay at the funeral home.
On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the body will be taken to Parliament for public viewing, followed by a special sitting to pay tribute to the late legislator. In the evening, the cortege will proceed to the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Makerere Kavule, before moving to the family residence in Namungoona for the official vigil.
On Thursday, April 23, 2026, a funeral service will be held at Namungoona Orthodox Church, after which the body will be transported to Luweero District for burial.
