The Alur Kingdom has expressed its sincere gratitude to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) for awarding a grant of UGX 56 million to support efforts aimed at combating the ongoing Ebola outbreak affecting Alur communities in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The financial support comes shortly after the Kingdom established an Internal Rapid Ebola Response Task Team to strengthen collaboration with district Ebola response teams and enhance community mobilization and awareness campaigns along the Uganda–DRC border.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Naturinda Allen Tush, District Governor of Lions District 411B Uganda, His Royal Majesty Phillip Olarker Rauni III, King of the Alur people, welcomed the intervention and described it as timely and vital in supporting ongoing disease prevention efforts.
According to the Kingdom, the grant will facilitate the procurement of essential personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline health workers operating in Nebbi and Zombo districts in Uganda, as well as Mahagi Territory in Ituri Province, eastern DRC.
His Royal Majesty noted that the targeted areas are predominantly inhabited by the Alur people, whose population spans both sides of the Uganda–DRC border and numbers in the millions. He emphasized the importance of protecting frontline health personnel who play a critical role in preventing the transmission of Ebola within border communities.
On behalf of the Alur people, the King conveyed appreciation to the Lions Clubs International Foundation for its commitment to safeguarding public health and supporting vulnerable communities during the health emergency. He also urged health workers to utilize the protective equipment effectively and responsibly to maximize its impact in the fight against Ebola.
The message of appreciation was signed by Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, the Prime Minister (Jadipu) of the Alur Kingdom. Copies of the communication were also shared with the Presidents of Lions Clubs in Nyapea (Zombo District), Nebbi, and Mahagi in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
