Residents and political candidates in Zombo District have been urged to observe electoral laws and promote peaceful campaigns ahead of the forthcoming Local Council I (LC I), Local Council II (LC II), and Women Council elections.
The appeal was made by the Zombo District Community Liaison Officer (CLO), Sgt. Jenaro Munguacel, who called on all political actors to conduct their campaigns responsibly and within the framework of the law.
He said security agencies, including plain-clothes personnel, will monitor campaign activities across the district to ensure compliance with Electoral Commission guidelines and maintain public order.
Sgt. Munguacel noted that candidates are permitted to campaign through face-to-face meetings with voters, door-to-door mobilization, campaign posters, radio and other media platforms, as well as public rallies. However, he reminded candidates that all campaign rallies must conclude by 6:00 p.m., in accordance with Electoral Commission regulations.
He further advised candidates to coordinate with the Uganda Police Force on traffic management before holding campaign processions and cautioned them against using abusive or inflammatory language that could incite violence or disrupt the electoral process.
The police officer made the remarks during a radio talk show on Thursday, July 16, 2026, as campaigns gather momentum ahead of the grassroots elections.
Uganda will head to the polls on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, to elect Local Council I, Local Council II, and Women Council leaders under the country’s multi-party political system.
