Amuru: More than 400 supporters of England football club, Arsenal based in Amuru district are battling stomach complications from suspected food poisoning.

The supporters developed severe stomach pains and a running stomach shortly after eating food that had been prepared in celebration of Arsenal`s victory over Manchester City FC in the Community Shield Cup.

The celebrations were held in Lajalula Trading Centre in Lajalula Parish Lakang Sub County on Saturday 23rd September this year.

For their merrymaking, the fans contributed money and slaughtered a cow so that they could feast on it in relief of their thirst for trophies. The meat was eaten by more than 400 people, among them local leaders.

However, it was a twist of an event after all the celebrants later that day reported stomach ache, and severe diarrhea, raising fury among them.

Stephen Ingeyo, one of the fans who is still battling pain in the lower abdomen said that it was so awkward that he developed stomach complications in the night with severe watery stool yet he did not eat anything else after the party.

Ingeyo who is still weak said that he is treating the condition at a local clinic at the trading centre upon recommendation of a health worker.

Michael Odora, the Chairperson of the business community in Lajalula Trading Centre who is also treating the condition says they suspect that the food which was cooked in the open could have been poisoned by a dirty-minded person.

“Almost everyone including women and children who feasted on the meat are experiencing stomach pain and diarrhea,” says Odora.

Francis Odida, the Chairperson of Lajalula Parish who also suffered the attack said that a meeting was this Tuesday convened at Lajalula Trading Centre to establish who could have been behind the food lacing.

“The food had a lot of foam shortly after it was cooked but the fans did not take interest in what could have possibly caused it,” Odida revealed.

Odida disclosed that their finding has led to one woman whom the members of the community have resolved to expel due to her unbecoming behaviors.

He noted that no casualty has been reported though a number of people are still battling the condition.
