Local leaders in Pakwach Town Council have directed fishermen operating at landing sites to pay a monthly revenue of 20,000 shillings as part of efforts to improve local revenue collection.
Town Clerk Godfrey Abara issued the directive during a meeting with Town Council officials and newly installed Beach Management Unit (BMU) committees. He said fishermen would first be required to clear their revenue arrears for the first quarter, covering July to September, before proceeding with monthly payments.
Senior Town Treasurer Ocanda Canan cautioned fishermen against resisting revenue collection, warning that landing sites that fail to remit the required revenue to the government risk closure.
Meanwhile, representatives of Beach Management Units from the 13 landing sites in Pakwach Town Council called for improved coordination and cooperation between BMU committees and local leaders at the landing sites to strengthen revenue collection.
