Nebbi. Nebbi chief magistrate court has remanded three juveniles to Koch government prison for stealing delivery beds   at   Kucwiny health center III in Nebbi district.

The chief magistrate court Nebbi Moses Ruganza who presided over the case confirmed that the suspects have been sentenced to six months in prison after they were proved guilty of the offence.

Ruganza says the trio on 17th of January this year broke into Kucwiny health center III stole over eight delivery mattresses and other unspecified list of health equipment.

He said the crime rate among juveniles is alarming and called for a leadership forum to bring parents to play their roles and responsibilities in bridging the crime rates in the communities.

“The court is overwhelmed with minors breaking into houses, stealing properties   and they aren’t above the law and they have to be sent  to remand homes so the crime they are committing  can be minimized,” Ruganza said.

However, the Chairman Health Centre  Management Committee Kucwiny Health Centre III Paul Thopachu  says, some of the stolen items have been  recovered with the help from elders who mounted a search in the community neighboring the health facility.

“Out of the eight mattresses that were stolen, the community around managed to recover four mattresses and other items like metallic beds are still missing”, Thopacho said.

The LC V Chairman for  Nebbi  district Emmanuel Urombi, says the district has   plans to fence all the health facilities  in the district following the rampant theft of government  properties in various  government’s   health facilities. “The district is working towards fencing all the health facilities to minimize theft in the health facilities which has become uncontrollable by the intruders who get free access to the facilities”, Urombi said.
