Authorities in Paidha Town Council, deliberating

Authorities in Paidha Town Council, Zombo District, have raised concern over the lack of desks at Cana Primary School, forcing learners to sit on the floor during lessons despite the recent renovation of classrooms.
The concern was raised by Omua Ward Councillor Alexandra Openjuru during a council meeting held at the Cultural Centre on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Openjuru called on the town council to prioritise the school in its subsequent budgets to address the shortage of classroom furniture.
Openjuru said Cana Primary School, located in Cana Cell, Omua Ward, is the only government-aided primary school bordering Paidha Sub-county, a factor he said contributes to its high learner enrolment. He noted that although the classrooms had been renovated, they remained without desks, leaving pupils to attend lessons while seated on the floor.
Paidha Town Council Secretary for Finance, Onim Angelo Akabway, said the council had prioritised classroom renovations at Cana Primary School and other schools in the previous financial year, but the provision of desks for the affected schools would require further budgetary consideration.
Akabway told councillors that plans were underway to provide desks to schools facing similar challenges, including Cana and Nguthe Primary Schools, subject to funding in the 2027/2028 financial year.
Meanwhile, Paidha Town Council LCIII Chairperson Amos Jacan said Cana, Nguthe, Paidha Demonstration and Mvule Primary Schools were among the institutions being considered for the procurement of classroom desks.
Jacan said the allocation criteria would be determined in consultation with relevant town council authorities, noting that limited resources and delayed release of funds often affect the procurement of desks, despite the growing demand from schools.
