

ELECTED SPEAKER OF THE 12TH PARLIAMENT OBOTH OBOTH RIGHT

Jacob Oboth-Oboth has been elected Speaker of Uganda’s 12th Parliament following a decisive vote held today at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.
The West Budama Central Member of Parliament and National Resistance Movement candidate won the race with 441 votes in a secret ballot supervised by Chief Justice Flavian Zeija. He defeated National Unity Platform candidate Paul Mwiru and Democratic Party President General Norbert Mao.
The election was witnessed by President Yoweri Museveni, Members of Parliament, diplomats, religious leaders, and other invited guests.
Following the declaration of results, Chief Justice Zeija administered the oath of office, officially ushering Oboth-Oboth into the position of Speaker of Parliament.
In his maiden speech, Oboth-Oboth pledged to promote accountability, transparency, and unity in Parliament. He also called on legislators to work together in serving the interests of Ugandans and strengthening democracy in the country.
Oboth-Oboth previously served as Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs and has chaired several parliamentary committees.
