Secondary school students in Kiryandongo district
Kiryadongo district is making efforts to curb the increasing school dropouts through infrastructure development.
One of the seed schools, Mboira Secondary school has received five class rooms, 5 stance latrine and 100 desks to boost enrolment in the sub county whose school dropout is ranked the highest in the District.
The infrastructure established by the District Local Government cost 466 million shillings and is expected to support the school by attracting learners from the community and the neighboring District of Masindi.
Richard Katwesige, the head teacher of Mboira commended the District leadership for prioritizing construction of classrooms at the school which has significantly facelifted the school. Katwesige added that the new infrastructure will attract more learners and increase the enrolment from the current 453 students with the number of girls standing at 160.
Katwesige further urged the District leadership to consider providing an ICT and science laboratory as well as a library which will make Mboira a complete school competing favorably at local and national levels.
Johnson Katusabe the District Inspector of schools noted that the enrolment of girls in secondary school had improved in Mboira Sub County following the efforts of the District to mobilize the community through dialogues.
Anselm Kyaligonza, the CAO Kiryandongo commended the parents for participating in school activities adding that it gives them an opportunity to appreciate what the government is doing. Kyaligonza added that all government programs implemented in the District were a product of the NRM manifesto.
Kyaligonza noted that his first visit at Mboira seed school motivated him to push for financing of infrastructure to improve its outlook. He added that the infrastructure established should translate into good grades since the learning environment has greatly improved.
Kyaligonza also urged the parents to embrace the school feeding program so that their children get lunch and concentrate in class.
David Mugenyi Ssemuddu the secretary for Finance reminded the parents that the government was committed to improving their livelihoods through programs like Emyooga and PDM and they needed to play their part and support their children in school.
Jonathan Akweteireho the Deputy RDC encouraged students to remain in school and work hard so as they succeed in life. He also cautioned the parents against not sending children to school which is insecurity to the community and the nation at large.
Mboira Sub County which hosts the school is grappling with a high rate of teenage pregnancies and low completion of primary school by girls. However, with continuous community dialogues and improved school infrastructure, the situation is changing as evidenced by the number of girls enrolled at Mboira Seed Secondary school.
