


The National Delegates Conference of the ruling National Resistance Movement party has voted president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the NRM party flag bearer for the 2026 and next party National party chairperson
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been voted by over 23,000 delegates to the NRM National Delegates Conference convened at Kololo independence grounds to vote for among others, party leaders for the Central Executive Committee
The voting exercise has been led by the NRM party Electoral Commission chairperson Dr Tanga Odoi
The newly elected NRM National chairman 2025 – 2030 also NRM party presidential flag bearer General Yoweri Museveni has commended delegates for their trust and wise choice to vote him for both responsibilities
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) also made major changes in the party’s elder persons and special interest group leadership ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Catherine Mavenjina emerged victorious as the NRM flag bearer for elder persons representing elder persons for northern region, former Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, Ofwono Opondo, elected as the NRM flag bearer for elder persons representing the Eastern region, defeating the incumbent Minister of State for Elder Persons, Gidudu Mafabi.
In the Central region, James Kakooza, the incumbent Ugandan mp in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), defeated Peninah Busingye Kabingani, who has been serving as the Member of Parliament for older persons.
Jacqueline Mbabazi, wife of former Prime Minister John Patrick Mbabazi become the NRM flag bearer for western region
Peggy Joy Waako retained her position as the Female NRM Flag Bearer for elder persons at the national level while Peninah Busingye Kabingani bounced back to win the position of Chairperson of the NRM Elders League.
In another key election, Shafiq Mwanje was elected Chairperson of the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) League.
