


It was un usual scene at Mandela National stadium in Nambole following the best performance ever for the national team, the Uganda Cranes finally broke the record, qualifying for the CHAN quarterfinals for the first time in history.
Uganda 3-3 draw with South Africa at the Mandela National Stadium on Monday night was followed by dance and drama by the excited Ugandans who had almost given up following the tricky match.
The Cranes carried their lead into the break and appeared in control, but the second half quickly turned into a difficult situation.
During the second half. South Africa equalized in the 52nd minute through Ramahlwe Mphahlele, later, Thabiso Kutulema struck to put Bafana Bafana ahead 2-1. Uganda responded by introducing Ivan Ahimbisibwe, whose energy revitalized the attack.
In the 78th minute, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo converted from a Keagan Dolly assist to make it 3-1, and Ugandans grew desperate.
Needing only a draw to advance, the cranes staged a stronger fight, Ivan Ahimbisibwe won a penalty in the 86th minute, which Allan Okello calmly converted to reduce the deficit. Within eight minutes added , Uganda won a second penalty. Rogers Torach stepped up in the 96th minute to slot home, sparking wild celebrations. The result left Uganda top of Group C with seven points, one ahead of Algeria, who finished on six. South Africa also ended with six points but fell short on goal difference. Guinea and Niger exited the competition.
