ENG. SIMON D’UJANGA, FORMER MINISTER OF STATE FOR ENERGY, HAS DECLARED HIS BID TO CONTEST FOR THE OKORO COUNTY PARLIAMENTARY SEAT

Former Minister of State for Energy Eng. Simon Giu D’Ujanga bounces back in active politics, with zeal to reclaim his parliamentary seat of Okoro constituency.

D’ Ujanga told reporters during  a press briefing  at his residence in Ambaki village, Kaya Parish, Zombo district,  on Sunday 20th, 2025 of his decision to contest in the forth coming elections.  He revealed that his resolution   follows a request from a big section of members of the community in Okoro county and greater Nebbi asking him to lead them  in an effort to bring development to the area.

D’Ujanga told reporters that following the people’s prayer for him to contest in the forth coming elections; he made consultations and found there’s overwhelming support from the electorate.

Reading from his written media release; “You will recall that sometime back, I informed you that I would not be offering myself for elections as MP for Okoro 2026-2031. “I have since received delegations after delegations from members of the public from Okoro county requesting me to stand for the elections, I have consulted widely and the general opinion is that I should stand for the position of MP for Okoro constituency 2026-2031,’ said D’Ujanga

D’Ujanga explained that the requests from the public came when the process of primary elections had advanced and he could not participate in  his NRM party primaries, prompting him to stand in the next elections as an independent candidate. “I have accordingly, decided to stand for the Position of MP Okoro constituency 2026-2031 as an independent candidate.” D’Ujanga concluded.

 D’Ujanga expressed optimism of becoming  Okoro county member of parliament in the next parliament adding that while in office ,  he will continue lobbying for extension of power to the villages, tarmacking of 122 km road from Goli-Paidha-Padea-Zombo-Zeu-Warr-Vura, promoting idea of cooperative society for farmers, supporting women’s Village Saving Credit Sacco’s   among others.

D’Ujanga recounts his achievements while he was holding leadership as State minister for Energy and Mp for Okoro County which include Nyagak Hydro Power dam. “During my tenure in parliament and as a minister for energy, I lobbied for construction of 3 megawatts Nyagak hydro electricity dam, which partly solved the challenge of power shortage in WestNile region” said D’Ujanga. 

If voted in office as area mp, D’Ujanga promised to work with government and leaders at all levels to cause economic transformation. He appealed to the people of Okoro County to accord him another opportunity, urging them to embrace his candidature. “You, young people , make sure you participate in the political affairs of your country because it’s through politics that the community can develop.” Eng. D’Ujanga observed

Eng. D’Ujanga, studied masters’ of Science in Electrical Engineering specializing in Machines and power system, from Aston University, Birmingham, United Kingdom. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering from  Makerere University.

Simon D’Ujanga served as the deputy Managing Director of the now defunct Uganda Electricity Board, the government-owned electrical utility company, from 1994 until 1997. From 1997 until 1998, he served as its managing Director In 2001, he entered politics, contesting for the parliamentary seat of Okoro County, Nebbi District. He won.  He was re-elected in 2006. On 1 June 2006, he was appointed State Minister for Energy, a position  he held up to   2021.

D’Ujanga lost the Okoro county parliamentary election in 2021 to the area mp Gabriel Okumu, however, he said he is willing to continue serving the country and the people of Okoro after winning  the forth coming elections.
