GARBAGE DUMPED ON ROAD AS WASTE PILES UP AT AWINDIRI MARKET

By : Our News Reporter

Traders at Awindiri Market in Adjumani Town Council have dumped garbage along a road leading into the busy market after the designated waste collection point became overwhelmed by accumulated rubbish.

The traders say the waste had remained uncollected for several days despite repeated calls for intervention from town authorities, forcing them to dispose of some of it along the roadside. The move has partially blocked access to the market and raised concerns over sanitation.

Pius Eruaga, Chairperson of Awindiri Market vendors, said he alerted the town authorities about the situation about a week ago but was informed that the garbage collection truck was out of service.

Eruaga urged traders to take responsibility for proper waste management while calling for regular collection to prevent the accumulation of garbage and maintain a clean and safe market environment.

He said continued dumping of waste on the access road could worsen the sanitation situation and interfere with the movement of traders, customers and other road users.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Mangapi, the LC3 Chairperson of Adjumani Town Council, said a meeting was underway to find a solution to the waste management problem. He promised to brief the media on the outcome of the meeting.

The situation has renewed concerns over waste management at Awindiri Market, one of Adjumani Town’s busy commercial centres, where the accumulation of garbage is not only posing a sanitation risk but also disrupting access to the market.

Residents and traders are now calling for urgent intervention by the town authorities to restore regular garbage collection and prevent further dumping along the market access road.
